The high-level International Conference ‘Social Entrepreneurship: a tool for addressing local development, youth unemployment and social needs’ to be held in Greece

The conference, organised under the auspices of the Hellenic Presidency of the EU Council, aspires to inform and sensitize as well as develop a fruitful dialogue among the participants (experts, social entrepreneurs, young people, vulnerable groups, representatives of Greek and European public and private bodies, European Commission’s representatives) regarding important social entrepreneurship issues such as the social value of social enterprises, the role of social entrepreneurship in addressing social needs with an emphasis on youth unemployment and local development and the new financial tools for social entrepreneurs.
 
The conference will be held in Herakleion, on the island of Crete, in Greece on the 10th-11th of June with the co-financement of the European Commission (DG Enterprise and Industry), under the auspices of the Hellenic Presidency of the EU Council.
 
During both the plenaries and workshops the participants will discuss, among other issues: current trends in Social Entrepreneurship, youth social entrepreneurship with contributions from Felix Oldenburg, from Ashoka Deutschland, European and Germany Director and Beatrice Cord, Co-Chair for the Annual Youth Assembly at the UN Youth Social entrepreneurship, latest updates on new legal frameworks and policies on social entrepreneurship in the member states, good practices regarding the impact of social entrepreneurship on youth unemployment as well as vulnerable groups, networking at regional, national and European level as an important factor in social entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship and social innovation as a tool for addressing new social needs at the local level. The questions of how to promote local development through social entrepreneurship and the role of an ecosystem supporting it will also be addressed as well as investment impact and ways of private funding and public funding with the directive on public procurement and new opportunities for social enterprises it presents.
 
During the Conference the attendees will also have the opportunity to have a close look at good practices of social enterprises presented in the workshops and be present during the last phase of the competition, organized with the cooperation of Greek Educational Institutions, and with its aim being to award the three the best social enterprise’s business plans presented by students.
